The Guarded Doors Conundrum | Logic game

The Mysterious Doorway

questions :

You find yourself standing in front of three identical doors. Each door has a guard standing beside it. These guards are known to always tell the truth or always lie, but you don't know which one is which.

Above each door, there is a statement:

Door 1: "Behind me is the path to endless riches."
Door 2: "One of the other doors leads to certain death."
Door 3: "Behind me is the way to freedom."

You know that behind one door is a room filled with treasure, another door leads to certain death, and the third door leads to freedom.

You're only allowed to ask one guard a single yes/no question to determine which door leads to the treasure. What question do you ask and which door do you choose to open?

Take your time to think about it, and when you're ready, Comment your answer!

Answer

To solve this puzzle, you can ask any guard the following question:

"If I were to ask the other guard which door leads to the treasure, what would he say?"

Let's analyze the possible scenarios:

If you ask the truthful guard:

If you're asking the truthful guard about the lying guard's response, the truthful guard would truthfully tell you what the lying guard would say.

So, if the treasure is behind Door 1, the lying guard would point to Door 2 or 3, and the truthful guard would confirm this.

If the treasure is behind Door 2 or 3, the lying guard would also point to Door 2 or 3, and the truthful guard would confirm this.

If you ask the lying guard:

If you're asking the lying guard about the truthful guard's response, the lying guard would lie about what the truthful guard would say.

So, if the treasure is behind Door 1, the lying guard would falsely claim that the truthful guard would point to Door 2 or 3.

If the treasure is behind Door 2 or 3, the lying guard would still falsely claim that the truthful guard would point to Door 2 or 3.

In either case, the response you get will lead you to the door with the treasure. So, after asking this question, you should choose the door that the guard points to.
